The TIL on Service Source Companion CD includes more than 15,000 technical support articles that have been converted to Adobe Acrobat documents. Before you can search and read these articles you will need to install
- Acrobat Reader 2.1
- Tech Info Library Index (Tech Info Library.pdx), an Acrobat search index of the articles in the TIL
Note: In order to load and use the Tech Info Library search index you need to use the version of Reader contained on the Main Service Source CD, or you can use Acrobat Exchange. Other versions of Acrobat Reader are not "plug-in enabled," which means they can not utilize search indexes and other features.
Installing Acrobat
If you have not already done so, we recommend that you return to the main Service Source CD and run the Acrobat Installer. The Acrobat Installer installs Acrobat Reader 2.1 in a folder called Adobe Acrobat on your startup drive. For more detailed instructions, refer to the Critical Information document at the top level of the Main CD.
Loading the Search Index
After installing Acrobat, you must load the Tech Info Library Index. This index is named Tech Info Library.pdx on the CD. Follow these steps to load the index.
1. Launch Acrobat Reader 2.1 (or Acrobat Exchange). The easiest way to do this is to launch the document titled "TIL Startup and Search." Alternatively you can open the Technical Info Library folder on the Companion CD and the Tech Info Library folder of TIL articles. Open (double-click) any Acrobat TIL article.
2. Click the search icon in the Acrobat toolbar. This icon depicts a pair of binoculars on a sheet of paper.
3. Click the Indexes... button and the Add button.
4. Navigate to the index file (Tech Info Library.pdx) and click Open (or double-click on the index). The index file is located in the Tech Info Library folder on the Companion CD.
The Tech Info Library Index is now loaded and selected. You may now search the TIL by entering your search text in the Adobe Acrobat Search window and clicking Search.
Note: For tips about effectively searching the TIL, we recommend that you read the Acrobat document "TIL Startup and Search." For your convenience, we have placed this document at the top level inside the Tech Info Library folder.
